Industry Announcements, Casting Calls

Thank you for being a continued supporter and friend of IFP. I am asking for your help in finding filmmakers to participate in IFP’s Independent Film Week Project Forum.

Independent Film Week is the oldest and largest forum in the U.S. for the discovery of new projects in development and new voices on the independent film scene. The Project Forum is a meetings-driven forum connecting filmmakers who have new narrative and documentary projects with key industry executives interested in identifying projects with which to become involved at the financing or distribution stage.

It is qualitatively and quantitatively the best opportunity for an independent filmmaker to connect with industry professionals - including producers, funders, distributors, broadcasters, sales agents and festival programmers. The Project Forum also furthers filmmaker and industry interaction with opportunities for networking at social events throughout the week.

(Recent projects have included: Emily Abt’s Toe to Toe, Courtney Hunt’s Frozen River, Rodney Evans’ Brother to Brother, Nicole Kassell’s The Woodsman, : Laura Poitras’ The Oath, Scott Hamilton Kennedy's The Garden, Rick Goldsmith and Judith Ehrlich’s The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers, Aron Gaudet’s The Way We Get By, Kimberly Reed’s Prodigal Sons, and many more).

We are reaching out to organizations and individuals who we feel would have a constituency well-suited to this program. We would love it if you could get the word out to your community to encourage them to apply to the Project Forum. This can be done either through the following tools: Newsletter or list-serve mention; Dedicated email blast; Blog promotion; or article written.

Please let me know if and how you can help and which blurbs, banners, buttons, etc. you need.

In addition, if you know of any projects that you feel might be of interest to the program, please contact me at dgiacomo@ifp.org. It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for all of your continued support. I look forward to seeing you soon.

All best,

Danielle DiGiacomo

Here's what one critic thought about MISCONCEPTIONS, due on DVD May 18th, and available for pre-order on Amazon, WalMart, Netflix and lots of other sites now:

"MISCONCEPTIONS is a sweet, completely endearing and surprisingly moving comedy with great crossover potential. It is the story of a conservative Christian woman named Miranda (A.J. Cook), who five years after the death of her young child at the hands of a rare disease, has a vision from God telling her to become a surrogate mother to a gay couple (Orlando Jones and David Moscow) looking to start a family. Misconceptions skillfully avoids the pratfalls of many socially conscious comedies, never coming off as preachy or heavy handed. It admirably treats both sides as human beings, rather than broad caricatures, never once feeling like it is condescending to its characters or the audience. It is a good natured film, warm hearted, funny, and surprisingly quite moving, using comedy as an emotional and even spiritual journey rather than for meaningless laughs. Orlando Jones, for his part, has never been better, giving the film's best performance and showing off some dramatic range."
