THOMPSON AND&TRAVOLTA?!
Stars North Co-Founder To Share The Stage With Hollywood Legends At
2010 Sunscreen Film Festival

ORLANDO, FL (April 14, 2010) Writer, director, producer Todd
Thompson will be returning to the Sunscreen Film Festival in St.
Petersbug this weekend, but not as a filmmaker with a film in
competition.

This year, Thompson will be judging the Florida Film category of
competition and will be participating in the festival s awards
ceremony being held Saturday night, April 17th at the Mirror Lake
Lyceum. He is sharing the stage with an impressive line-up of
Hollywood celebs in attendance this year, including Billy Dee
Williams (The Empire Strikes Back), Patrick Wilson (Lakeview Terrace,
Little Chirldren), Alexa Vega (Spy Kids 1, 2 an 3), Ayanna Berskhire
(Twilight), Bill Cobbs (Night at the Museum), Ethan Suplee (My Name
Is Earl), Sean Covel (producer of Napoleon Dynamite) and Florida s
own John Travolta who will be announcing Thompson s pick for Best
Florida Film during the gala.

Thompson s, whose award-winning film Time & Again played at the very
first Sunscreen in 2005, has had numerous films screen at the
festival and took home the coveted Best Florida Film Award for his
short This Man s Life starring Michael Rooker, Bill Cobbs and Betsey
Brantley last year.

It s been so great watching the festival grow over the years
Thompson says. And as a contributing filmmaker, having the
opportunity to play a small part in their success has been very
rewarding. For anyone who has never been, Sunscreen is definitely at
the top of the list when you re talking about must-see film
festivals. I feel honored to have been asked to be part of this
year s event. I feel like I finally have a chance to reciprocate some
of that first-class hospitality!

The 5th Annual Sunscreen Film Festival opens tonight, April 14th at
the Baywalk Muvico 20 in downtown St. Petersburg and continues
through Sunday, April 18th. The Opening Night film is Black Dynamite,
a spoof of the 70 s blaxplotation films that stars Michael Jai White,
Arsenio Hall and Tommy Davidson. The awards ceremony with John
Travolta will take place Saturday night, April 17th at the Mirror
Lake Lyceum located at 737 Third Avenue North in St. Petersburg,
FL33701.

FestivalPasses and VIP Tickets to the 5th Annual Sunscreen Film
Festival are available by visiting www.sunscreenfilmfestival.com

. Remaining proceeds of the funds raised through ticket sales and VIP
events will go to benefit the St. Petersburg-based Resurrection House.

Interviews

Interviews with filmmaker Todd Thompson or Sunscreen Festival
Executive Director and Co-Founder Tony Armer are available upon
request. Please call (321) 278-6708 or (727) 421-3297 for scheduling.

About Sunscreen Film Festival

Sunscreen Film Festival is organized and presented by the St.
Petersburg-Clearwater Film Society, a not-for-profit 501(c) (3)
organization, which is dedicated to educating the public about the
art of visual storytelling, enhancing opportunities for local
filmmakers to develop their craft and art, and increasing the
public s awareness and support of local filmmaking as a cultural and
economic asset.

"The Sunscreen Film Festival has been a great community partner,"
said St. Petersburg Mayor Bill Foster. "Not only do they bring great
films to audiences in St. Petersburg, but this year's festival
benefits a great cause, the Resurrection House that provides
transitional housing to families with young children who are at risk
of becoming homeless. I'd like to thank Carlos Yepes for supporting
the festival and doing such great work in the community."

Local developer and philanthropist Carlos Yepes, and his wife
Beverly, through their non-profit foundation, the Beverly and Carlos
Yepes Foundation, decided to underwrite a majority of the Festival
after he discovered the Festival was not seeking financial gain for
themselves. We are a volunteer board who spends a great deal of
effort bringing films to the community that they otherwise might
never see. Plus, we saw an opportunity to support the art of
independent filmmaking in TampaBay and independent films are always
passion plays made for the love of the art and seldom for money. So
we decided to follow that model and formed our Festival that way,
said executive director and co-founder Tony Armer.

Boasting four days of actor workshops and panels, last year it was
two, the 2010 Sunscreen Film Festival is bigger than ever with
proceeds benefiting a St. Petersburg-based non-profit that helps
homeless families return to self-sufficiency, Resurrection House.

Actor s Workshop passes are $175 with a VIP and give aspiring actors,
or those intent on polishing their craft, the opportunity to work with
ALL of the attending celebrities.

VIP passes start at $125 and entitles the bearer to ALL access to all
films, events and exclusive celebrity parties, like the Awards
Ceremony with John Travolta, with a special performance by Patrick
Wilson on stage.

Day Passes are $35.00 and allow attendees to make a day out the
Festival. On Saturday, Wilson, with the US Southeast premiere of his
new comedy, Barry Munday, will host the screening at 2pm at Muvico 20
Baywalk and be the to lead a Q & A session after the film. For this
screening, ONLY DayPass and VIP holders are admitted.

Single general admission tickets to any one movie are $8.00.

About Todd Thompson

While he has enjoyed a career both in front and behind the camera in
films such as The Green Mile, Rosewood, From The Earth to the Moon
and TV's Dawson's Creek, Todd sfavorite role has always been that of
a storyteller. Even as a boy, he experimented behind the camera as a
writer, producer and director making short films with the help of his
family and friends and his grandfather's 8mm camera. His aspirations
turned professional after re-locating to Orlando, Florida where he
produced a series of award-winning films, including Time & Again
starring Academy Award-nominee Seymour Cassel, Once Not Far From Home
starring Erik Per Sullivan, Skye McCole Bartusiak, Daniel Hugh Kelly
and veteran actor, James Best and This Man s Life starring Michael
Rooker, Bills Cobbs and Betsy Brantley.

For Todd, "Movies are the one thing we all have in common. It all
starts with a good story and a colorful cast of characters who are on
a journey filled with enough ups and downs and twists and turns to
keep your audience guessing and coming back from more!

About Resurrection House

Formed in 1987 by a group of downtown churches, Resurrection House
follows the same self-sufficiency model it promotes. No government
money is accepted. All money comes from private sources and a new
campus across from St. Anthony s Hospital was completed in 2001
debt-free. Administrative overhead costs do not exceed 11% of their
total budget. 89% of the funding goes directly into the program to
help homeless families and children. Nearly 40% of their funding
comes from individuals. Since 1988, families who have completed the
Resurrection House program have done so with an 80% success rate. The
Resurrection House program consists of case management, counseling,
life skill classes, childhood education and enrichment programs,
non-denominational spiritual development and transitional housing.

2nd Annual Orlando 24 Hr. Film Festival Returns May 1st

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 4/8/10
2nd Annual Orlando 24 Hr. Film Festival Returns May 1st

ORLANDO, FLA. College film students and professional filmmakers from all over Central Florida will come together May 1st for the second annual Orlando 24 Hr. Film Festival. The wildly successful event made its debut last February and received attention from press in multiple states, not to mention filmmakers state-wide.

The goal is to bring together and bring to the surface some of Orlando's most talented aspiring filmmakers, by challenging their creativity on an entirely new level. Participants have 24 hours to write, film, edit, and direct a 3-5 minute short film. If this sounds like an easy task to you, think again. Last year, out of the 52 teams that signed up, only 40 teams managed to actually get their films submitted on time.

Teams will meet prior to 9am at the Premiere Cinemas theater in Fashion Square mall on Saturday, May 1st. Each team will receive a packet with rules, regulations, and instructions for the festival. There will be a "Required List," which includes: 2 genres (one must be selected), 15 items (3 must be selected to appear somewhere in the film), and one line of dialogue which must be used in the film. Each team will have a "team leader" who will receive the packet at 9am, and the clock will start. Each team will from that point have 24 hours to get their film finished and back to Premiere Cinemas at 9 am, May 2nd.

The completed films will then be viewed by a panel of judges who will select the top 24 films to be shown May 9th at the red carpet screening and awards ceremony.

The 24 Hour Film Festival is not only a competition, but is also seen as a valuable opportunity for networking. "You never know who you may be talking to ," said film festival president and Event Coordinator Michael DiCarlo. "One thing I have learned about the film industry is that we do not have a particular look or identification."

As further incentive, there will be a grand prize of $1000 and a trophy, not to mention 8 more categories, each of which will be awarded a trophy and merchandise prizes from various sponsors. Categories include best director, cinematography, actor, actress, screenplay, high school film, college film, and general public film.

A percentage of the proceeds will also be donated to the Haiti Relief Fund (http://www.haitirelieffund.org/). For more information, or to register for the Orlando 24 Hr. Film Festival, please visit (Orlando24hourfilm.com).
