Auditions will be held at the John & Rita Lowndes Shakespeare Center, 812 E. Rollins Street, Orlando, Florida, 32803 on Friday, October 9, 2009 from 2 PM -2010 PM and Saturday, October 10, 2009 from 10 AM - 6 PM.

Please prepare either one side each from Hamlet and All's Well That Ends Well (roles of your choice) or two contrasting monologues, not to exceed five minutes total. Suggested sides are available at www.orlandoshakes.org. Text need not be memorized. A reader will be provided.

Please bring TWO copies of your stapled headshot/resume.

Equity Members without appointments will be seen throughout each audition day, as time permits.

[ HAMLET ]
Male. Late 20’s to Early 30’s Prince of Denmark. Morally tormented, indecisive, brash, impulsive.

[ CLAUDIUS ]
Male. Mid to Late 50’s. The King of Denmark, Hamlet's uncle, murderous usurper of the throne. A man of appetites and sinister ambition.

[ GERTRUDE ]
Female. Early to Mid 50’s. The Queen of Denmark, Hamlet's mother, recently married to Claudius. A mother torn between love and duty to her son, and her own weakness for power and status.

[ POLONIUS ]
Male. Late 50’s to Early 60’s. The Lord Chamberlain of Claudius's court, a pompous, funny, conniving old man. Father of Laertes and Ophelia.

[ HORATIO ]
Male. Late 20’s to Early 30’s Hamlet's close and loyal friend.

[ LAERTES ]
Male. Late 20’s to Early 30’s. Polonius's son and Ophelia's brother. A hot-blooded man of impulsive action. Seeks to revenge the death of Ophelia and Polonious.

[ HAMLET'S FATHER'S GHOST ]
Male. Mid to Late 50’s. The specter of Hamlet's recently deceased father. A magnanimous King and loving father who calls Hamlet to avenge his murder.

[ ROSENCRANTZ AND GUILDENSTERN ]
Male. Mid 20’s to Early 30’s. Two slightly bumbling courtiers, former friends of Hamlet used by Claudius in his scheming against Hamlet.

[ GUARDS, COURTIERS, AND TROOP OF PLAYERS ]
Male and female, various ages.

[ BERTRAM (COUNT OF ROUSILLON) ]
Male, late 20’s to early 30’s - Handsome, charming and well liked; he proves to be an excellent soldier, but is also quite loathsome in his relationship with Helena and his lascivious attempted seduction of Diana. He remains unrepentant until the very end of the play.

[ LAFEU ]
Man, 50 - 70. A good old lord. Virtuous, wise and also quick-tempered. Sees both Helena's virtues and Parolles's worthlessness.

[ KING (OF FRANCE) ]
Male, 50’s - Like the Countess, he loves Helena, and is appalled by Bertram's behavior. He moves from a resigned passivity to fierce anger when Bertram attempts to refuse Helena's hand.

[ PAROLLES ]
Man, 30 - 40. Parasitical follower of Bertram. Comic role. Coward, liar, braggart; pretends to be a great soldier when he is nothing of the sort.

[ LAVACHE ]
Man, 30 - 50. Clown in the court of Rousillon. Comic role. Old servant of the Countess. Serves as a messenger and enjoys coarse, sexual humor.

[ DIANA ]
Woman, 20s. Young virgin of Florence. Lovely and virtuous; shows both courage and wisdom in her aiding of Helena.

[ WIDOW ]
Woman, 40 - 50. Mother to Diana. Kindly and honorable; willingly assists Helena. The sort of woman who welcomes pilgrims into her home.

[ STEWARD ]
Man, any age. Loyal servant to the Countess.

[ SECOND SOLDIER ]
Man, 20 - 40. Comic. Acts as interpreter in comic scene that fools Parolles.

[ FIRST LORD DUMAINE ]
Man, 25 - 50. Loyal to the King of France. Wise counselor and excellent soldier.

[ SECOND LORD DUMAINE ]
Man, 25 - 50. Loyal to the King of France. Wise counselor and excellent soldier.
